Afrobeats singer and Mavin Records boss, Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed that Ayra Starr has had a major impact on his life, despite being an artiste whose career he helped launch.
The music executive made the statement on X on Thursday while responding to a fan who praised his contribution to Ayra Starr’s rise in the music industry.
According to Don Jazzy, discovering Ayra Starr through an Instagram freestyle became a significant moment in his life.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle o. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl,” he wrote.
Don Jazzy discovered Ayra Starr through her social media freestyles before signing her to Mavin Records.
Since then, the singer has grown into one of the prominent voices in Afrobeats, gaining international recognition through her music and collaborations with artistes from Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Ayra Starr recently released her third studio album, Starrgirl, on August 14.
The 16-track project features Nigerian stars Wizkid and Rema, alongside international artistes including ZAYN, Leon Thomas, kwn, Theodora and Danny Ocean.
Wizkid appears on “Gimme Dat”, while Rema features on “Who’s Dat Girl”.
Don Jazzy’s remarks highlight the lasting impact of their relationship, with the music executive acknowledging that the artiste he discovered and nurtured at Mavin Records has also significantly influenced his own journey.
